Programming Foundations contd…
- Role of Operating System: Os execute applications as processes.
- For each process allocates CPU share, memory, and other necessary resources
- Each operating system will have its own native calls
- Languages are of 3 types
- Assembly level: To interact with hardware
- Low level: To interact with low level API calls
- High level: To build applications
- Every OS will have its own calls and its own way of identifying and running applications
- Programming language gets converted into low-level via compilers or interpreters
Higher level languages
- Basic constructs
- Datatype:
- Datatypes indirectly are about memory size to be allocated in RAM
- We have two types of datatypes
- fixed length
- variable length
- mutable datatypes: in the same memory location updates are done
- immutable datatypes: new memory location is given whenever the value changes
- variable/constant: When we allocate memory, we get a memory location back from RAM, and we create an alias for this

float pi = 3.14; # static typed languages
const float pi = 3.14; - statement: smallest unit of execution in a program
